“A HAND OF HOPE FOR DIABETIC PATIENTS”

The Consortium of Government Diabetes Clinics Inc is a non-stock, non-profit organization composed of diabetes clinics majority of which are based in government hospitals, both Department of Health retain and local government unit.

May 9, 1997 - officially registered at Securities and Exchange   Commission. The office is based at L4 Block 52 Apitong Street, Marikina Heights, Marikina City from our former home at the UERMMMC Administration Building in Q.C

The primary functions of the organization are as follow:

  • To assist the Department of Health promulgates policies on Diabetes Control, Prevention and Treatment.
  • To prepare uniform learning materials for all diabetic patients of all member government and non-government diabetes clinics.
  • To create network referral system for the diabetic complications among patients of all the DOH diabetes clinics.
  • To help train the staff of the different diabetes clinics on diabetes care.
  • To promote the creation of cooperatives among the patients of the different diabetes clinics so they can avail of cheaper medications and laboratory test.

MISSION
To provide the diabetic patients access to effective and efficient clinical care and diabetic education.

ANNUAL ACTIVITIES

  1. QUARTERLY MEETING
    • The Consortium secretariat will be the one in-charged in assigns the host for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Quarterly Meeting every year.
    • The Consortium secretariat will also assist the host club in inviting the different clubs to attend the meeting, print the invitation etc.
    • The Consortium secretariat will also assign or give the topic to be discussed during the meeting (DM and complications, DM and infectious disease, Updates in OAD, Monitoring, alternative approaches in preventing diabetes.)

  1. DEEP LEADERSHIP CAMP (Diabetes Equipping Empowerment Program) Molding the diabetic patients to become an effective diabetes educator. “Patient to Patient Approach” Officers of different club members attend this program to equip and empowered them thru :

       LEADERSHIP TRAINING: CORE CONTENT

  • Knowing what a true leader is and how to have the spirit of a leader.
  • Teaching them about basic counseling
  • Teaching them how to communicate properly
  • Teaching them how to have a compassionate heart toward other
  • Teaching them about Integrity.
  • There is still LIFE inspite of having diabetes, strengthening the members’ spiritual life.

               HANDLING FINANCES

  • How to handle finances effectively for the club; simple accounting principle with their doctors.

DIABETES SELF MANAGEMENT TRAINING

  • Guiding the patient how to co-manage their diabetes with their doctors.
  • a seminar workshop on developing leadership skills
  1. PHILIPPINE DIABETES CONGRESS

Diabetes Congress is an annual major activity of the consortium to serve as a forum where the various diabetes service groups can meet as a team and together with the government, plan strategies for the welfare of the diabetics.
